Meet The Owner of Emerald Doulas

Melanie D. Patrick is a DTI Certified Birth Doula, a CAPPA Labor and Postpartum Doula, a Bereavement Doula, a Hypnobabies® Hypno-Doula, a HypnoBirthing® Hypno-Doula, a childbirth educator, and a Certified Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis Instructor.

Melanie has been providing birth and postpartum support (initially to friends and family) since 1989. In 2011 she first heard the word “doula” and, after some research felt called to provide, in an official way, the work that had come so naturally to her for decades. She worked as an independent/solo doula for years in New York and Connecticut before again experiencing the feeling of being called to move to North Carolina, partnering with Ashley & Suzanne (see our Founder’s page), and establishing Emerald Doulas. Melanie loves the hands-in-it-all approach to nurturing her business and the doulas who work with her. She help ensure that the intimate relationship that develops between doulas and the families we support is not lost in her agency’s model, but rather flourishes and deepens within the community that is cultivated at Emerald Doulas. She is excited for the additional services Emerald Doulas will soon be providing to the Triangle community!
