With all that’s going on in the world during the recent pandemic crisis, it’s understandable if new parents feel overwhelmed, untethered, or uncertain. The earliest days home with a newborn are already a time of vulnerability and growth. Allow yourself the time and space to feel all the feelings you need to have during these days.
As doulas, we find it helpful to anchor ourselves in the Present with the help of mantras, or positive affirmations, in times of stress. This week, we’d like to offer ten phrases you might try repeating to yourself (or with your baby) the next time the tidal wave of emotion takes a turn towards you.
Today I’ll focus on the things which are within my control
I am adaptable.
I can do hard things. (or, We can do hard things, together.)
It’s okay to not feel okay today. Tomorrow may be a better day.
I have a deep well of creativity in my soul.
I am enough for my baby.
Today I can give myself grace and kindness.
I can speak up for myself and for my baby.
I breathe in peace, and breathe out fear. In with Peace. Out with Fear.
I create a safe space for my baby to grow during pregnancy. I create a safe space for my baby to thrive during postpartum.
Families, you are never alone. We are here for you, now and always.
